How To Check Engine Oil Quality

How to Determine Engine Oil Quality?

How to Determine Engine Oil Quality?
Engine Oil
is the lifeblood of your engine. It makes sure there is a smooth, efficient function of the complicated machine that is your engine. The best engine oils have additives added to them to prevent seal breakage, leakages, overheating, sludging and clogs.
Divyol by Gandhar recommends speaking to your vehicle manufacturer and a trusted mechanic to provide you with the correct oil for your car. Once you’ve received the oil, it’s time to do your own due diligence.

Factors of engine oil quality

Whether your oil is mineral oil, semi-synthetic or fully synthetic, it is important to look out for these three factors –

  1. Viscosity – This is demarcated by the 15W40” or “10W30” or any other combination of numbers. These numbers signify the cold and running thickness of your engine oil. You should understand your vehicle’s requirements before you pick a viscosity.
  2. Base Oil Factors – This will determine if the oil is mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil or fully synthetic oil.
  3. Product Name – Engine Oils are fairly similar, but the commercial name determines which vehicle it will work best with

Why does the quality of the Engine Oil matter?
Engine Oil quality is a determining factor in the most important everyday factors of your driving or riding. The best engine oils will keep your mileage accurate to manufacturer figures, increase durability of your engine, save you money in repairs and assure you maximum performance out of your engine. A low quality oil can result in short term and long term problems in your vehicle such as –

  1. Short term – Sludging, where the oil overheats and results in carbon buildup where the oil cannot wash over the intake valves. Leakage, where the poor quality of oil can prevent proper lubrication of seals, resulting in extra friction and the breakage of the seals keeping your engine shut. Overheating, due to unwanted friction the temperature in the engine will rise.
  2. Long Term –
    1. Lowered Fuel Economy – An inefficient engine will waste more fuel than it uses and keep the engine from running at its best capacity.
    2. Lower Performance – Improper lubrication leads to lower fuel uptake, broken seals and overheated engines, all which contribute to your vehicle feeling far slower than it actually is.
    3. Repair Costs – Friction is generally bad for your engine when its not the regulated amount, often due to bad lubrication. This will result in increased maintenance costs due to constant replacement of engine parts.
What are the markers of good engine oil

What are the markers of a good engine oil?

A good motorcycle engine oil or car engine oil will be packaged well, have a transparent buying process and will adhere to all specifications set out by manufacturers.

Your Engine Oil must meet API (American Petroleum Institute) and viscometric specifications. What this means is that your engine oil will be produced to the highest standards for efficiency, durability and performance.
